Shibuya – Tokyo intersection

There are many cities that, when mentioned, immediately make people think of a specific symbolic place. For example, when you talk about New York, you immediately think of the Statue of Liberty, when you talk about Paris, you think of the Eiffel Tower, and everyone knows that there is the Great Wall of China in Beijing. And of course Tokyo also has unique places like the Tokyo Tower and the Skytree, but for me this is the most recognizable symbol of this city Shibuya crossing.

There is no doubt that Shibya Crossing is a must-see for anyone coming to Tokyo.

The busy intersection right in front of Shibuya Station is a symbol of Tokyo's dynamism. Three huge electronic screens hanging on buildings across the intersection were broadcasting continuously, while the rest of the area was lit by electric lights and advertising signs.

Then raise your head and when you turn to the side you will see the special feature of this area: the people. From all directions, streams of people streamed busily and stormily to where they wanted to go.

After a few minutes of chaos, the crowd began to die down. This is also one of my favorite moments: While vehicles are still circulating on the street, the flow of people gradually fills the sidewalk and is just waiting to spill out onto the street. When the traffic light turned green, the chaos began again.

The intersection is a famous location and has served as a backdrop for many films, television shows and news reports in Tokyo. It has appeared in films Lost in translation And The fasting and the angry: Tokyo Driftand this place is also featured in many music videos, news reports and cartoons. As a famous symbol of modern Japan, you almost always see images of photographers and filmmakers working at the intersection, climbing over fences or sitting on the subway to find the best angle.

Around Shibuya Crossing

Navigating the chaotic crowds is something every Tokyo visitor should experience, but Shibuya Crossing is also one of the quietest areas when viewed from a distance.

Cafes and restaurants at the intersection take advantage of their prime location to set up window seats so customers can watch passers-by or tourists take photos.

One of the most famous viewing spots is the huge Starbucks opposite Shibuya Station. A place that is never empty. The second floor seats feature floor-to-ceiling glass doors that provide the perfect view of the intersection.

The Shibuya area is a vibrant destination that attracts all walks of life. It is a popular nightlife destination with bars, clubs and popular izakaya and weekend hangouts. This is also a shopping area with the latest models.

Shibuya Station is a major train and subway hub in Tokyo. The Hachiko Exit (Exit 8) is huge and always busy and leads to Shibuya Crossing, which is also one of the city's most popular meeting points (the gentle Moyai statue on the other side of the station is a great option). Many of the station's other subway exits are also located around the intersection.

Shibuya Crossing is a popular meeting point during major seasonal events such as Halloween or New Year countdown events.

For international visitors, Shibuya Crossing may never be considered an iconic Tokyo landmark, but Shibuya Crossing is undeniably representative of the city itself: crowded, dynamic, and plenty of interesting things to do.
